Miller Homes recruitment supporting women in construction
At Miller Homes’ headquarters in Yorkshire, the housebuilder is paving the way for female construction workers with a number of key roles now filled by women.
With its extensive portfolio of live developments in its divisions across the UK, the housebuilder is welcoming an increased number of women candidates applying for vacancies in its Yorkshire region, as more and more highly skilled female professionals seek worthy careers in construction. In addition, a greater emphasis is placed on STEM subjects from an early age and this enhanced awareness is helping students to explore careers where these qualifications are important.
“It’s really important that the sector attracts employees across the spectrum to ensure that the portfolio of skills is as diverse and as high calibre as possible,” said Paul Moore, managing director, Miller Homes Yorkshire. “Disappointingly, women are still under-represented in the sector however, the team at Miller Homes in Yorkshire is bucking the trend and we are proud to employ people on their skills and merit.”
Two more recent additions to the team include Natasha Humphrey, 29, from Pontefract who gained a first in her Masters Degree in Civil Engineering at Loughborough University to pursue her career as an engineer in construction. Her role entails dealing with essential parts of housebuilding that take place below ground including roads and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Amy Walker, 26, from Wakefield, began as an apprentice and now holds the position of architectural technician, a role which sees her work with the designs and building of the region’s homes.
“Natasha and Amy join Debbie Whittingham, our sales director, Jess Kiely, our associate land director and Sarah Whinfrey, our regional sales manager, who all hold senior roles within the business and have years of valuable experience between them,” said Paul. “Being successful in a job is not about your gender; it’s about your skills, capabilities, professionalism and drive to succeed and the team at Miller Homes in Yorkshire is committed to ensuring we have the right people in the right roles to be able to prosper and provide high levels of customers service and quality homes to our customers.”
